I-Participate – OPIN platform to instill e-participation among young people

Social media are one of the means by which Aġenzija Żgħażagħ keeps in touch with young people and updates them about various aspects which impact youth directly like the national youth policy and information relevant to them.
Aġenzija Żgħażagħ looks at different ways how to consult young people and seeks to actively involve them in the decision making processes. This is mainly achieved through events the agency holds from time to time.
Through the OPIN platform, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ will be exploring other ways how to involve a wider range of young people through online tools. OPIN is a portal that helps entities like Aġenzija Żgħażagħ to collect young people’s views, opinions and ideas on a wide range of issues.
Amongst the tools it offers one may find ideas generation, polling, text reviewing and agenda setting. This project is being coordinated by EUth, a consortium which benefitted from the Horizon2020 funding programme.

OPIN offers a number of advantages such as the possibility to see and reply to other people’s comments and knowing how this information is going to be utilised. Aġenzija Żgħażagħ will be using this system through its community services.
Those young people who want to participate actively on OPIN and have a say in the decision making process can visit the OPIN platform and participate in the on-going projects on OPIN. Registering on the platform is easy and quick. Participants can choose to be anonymous.
At the end of the project a debate will be held between the policy makers and young people to discuss the validity of having such a tool at the young people’s disposal and involving them in decision making processes more effectively.
