Sputnik School - Telling the Untold

Yet an amazing experience it was in Moscow Russia last week between the 28th October and the 2nd of November 2018 where i was chosen by Agenzija Zghazagh to participate in Sputnik Project-The School of Young Journalists. My experience in the media sector is a varied one. Starting off as a TV presenter, co-ordinating and presenting programmes of a cultural nature on ONE TV, I moved on to producing and presenting radio programmes on ONE Radio. My radio programmes mainly dealt with cultural news, especially in the run-up years to the 2018 European Capital City of Culture, hosted by Valletta, our capital city. Since 2017, i joined the media house's newsroom, assuming the role of one of the co-ordinators and regular journalist of the online news portal ONE News.

I am also a regular contributor of culture related articles on two local Sunday newspapers, mainly "Illum" and "Kulhadd". While in Moscow, i met other 39 journalists coming from different countries such as Japan, China, Uganda, Italy, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bulgaria and many more. We’ve built a network and we are sharing ideas how to improve our techniques in writing and producing a well written news pieces for our readers.

This course included hands on course work in the main newsroom of this Russian well known agency where we were also assigned with tasks to complete and train ourselves. We experienced the live airing of radio shows and the modern technology which is being used in this news agency. Moreover, we were also given hints as regards how to make a video go viral on the social media, not by inventing or creating but by give the best snippets from the whole videos to the general public. I take this opportunity to thank Agenzija Zgħazagħ for engaging youths like me and give us this wonderful opportunity to enrich ourselves with such amazing moments. It was so fruitful and I hope that other youths will follow.
