'I was so anxious' - Duke Of Edinburgh

‘I never knew that I would be able to do this’ - -‘I never knew that some of the places we passed through existed. There is so much natural environment to explore and appreciate.’-‘I was so anxious and excited for this expedition. If I had to go back, I would do it all over again.’

So many reactions and so many positive out comes. During the past months young people at Youth.Inc were following this programme in the first three sections. In the past two months, more work was invested on the last section, the adventurous journey. During a number of sessions young people were given training on a number of skills such as first aid, map reading, pitching a tent, cooking outdoors, packing a backpack and wearing the correct apparel for different environments and weather conditions.

The day arrived with weather conditions looking bleak: cold, windy and rainy. However, in spite of all this, each participant pushed through in order to arrive to their destination together as a team, with no one left behind. These young people have surpassed the bronze level of the expedition with great team work and in high spirits.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an internationally recognized award for young people between the ages of 14 and 25. The programme has a 4-section framework:

a) Service – encourages young people to volunteer their time and to understand the benefits of this service to their community.

b) Skill- encourages the development of personal interests and practical and social skills.

c) Physical Recreation- encourages young people to participate in sport or other physical recreation for the improvement of health and fitness.

d) Adventurous Journey- encourages a sense of adventure whilst undertaking a team journey where participants will plan, train for and undertake a journey with a defined purpose in an unfamiliar environment.
